I'm currently reading A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini. Suns is Hosseini's follow up to his hugely successful first novel The Kite Runner. Suns tells the story of a young "illegitimate" girl born in Afghanistan and follows her life from the Russian invasion through the tyranny of the Taliban take-over to the present day. Thus far Suns is poised to be equally as riveting, insightful and heart-breaking as its predecessor. This is definitely "eye-opening" fiction.
